Cooking Classes

I need some! All I can really cook are the basics, like spaghetti, hamburger helper, etc. I want to make something cool, something different and fancy. I am researching some classes in Gainesville to try to sign up for, depending on how much they are I think it would be worth it to know how to make other options, I think we would eat out less if I had more things I could cook, as it is there is about 15 different meals I can make, all simple and ‘normal’.

I would love to be able to make some of the things I see being made on television, not the really strange things that I need a special store to buy things from. Just things other than bbq chicken! So frustrating!

Be Oyster Aware

oyster-pearl.jpgWhile I don’t eat any sort of Gulf oysters I am fascinated by the objects they hold inside. The question has been raised, what if they offered something else? I don’t know, I think the best thing to find would be a pearl, nature at its best!

The site linked talks about the oyster, and specifically the risks in eating them if you are “at risk” and advises you to be aware. I don’t eat them for personal preference, just not my thing! Nothing against them, I would love to try one one day and find a beautiful pearl! I may try a cooked one first, but I don’t think I should while pregnant maybe after, we will see.

Lucky thing I got through this post without getting sick… just the thought of the slimy raw ones! Time to find something really really cooked to eat! (of course I am super hungry again!) Even though I am a little sick still but have gotten a lot done today, time to take a little break and watch a bit of Lfetime Movie Network!

What are your favorite oyster recipes? I will file them away to try once I have this little one!

Weekly Flub - Help- I burned the meat!

flubOops! You burnt the meat! Well, the biggest problem with burnt meat is the dryness, so by adding moisture, it may be salvageable. Scrape off the burnt spots and try some of these tips:

1. Trim off the burned outer layer and discard it.

2. Cut the dry interior meat into thin slices.

3. Put the pieces in a casserole dish with some beef broth and your favorite salsa. There’s your moisture.

4. Stir in some pinto or black beans from a can and, if you like, some canned or frozen corn kernels and some chopped onion. Let it sit for a few minutes. Warm the mixture on the stovetop. Grate a thick layer of hard cheese on top. Put the whole thing, uncovered, in the oven long enough to melt the cheese. Serve with warm tortillas or tortilla chips.

5. Here’s another solution for burned meat: After you’ve trim off the charred outer layer, shred the dry interior meat with a fork or your fingers. (It should shred easily in the state it’s in.) Stir the meat into a cup or two of barbecue sauce, canned gravy, or real gravy made by mixing flour with the roast’s drippings. Then warm the dish on the stove for five minutes. Pour it over potatoes or biscuits.

Hopefully this helps you solve the problem! Add your tips in the comments!
