I know some of you know what is going on, but wanted to update everyone, and let the rest of you know what is happening. First off, Taylor is fine, doctors are thinking all of this is normal preemie problems that will resolve on their own. Right now we are at Shands at UF Childrens hospital, night two, we were admitted after her doctor appointment on monday with the neonatalogist, she had been having a few episodes of possible seizures, and then had a small one at the docors office, but we still dont know if any of them were actual seizures, 99% sure, and even if not, SOMETHING was wrong for all three events, just dont know wat yet. Anyway, because of my history of seizures as a baby, her hisory of being preemie, and the fact that one happened at the doctors office they decided to admit her for tests, mainly because it would be quicker than trying to schedule everything outpatient, that could have taken weeks.
Sooo, we are at the hospital, so far they have done a MRI, a spinal tap, a EEG, a EKG, a echo cardiogam, and blood cultures, so far all results are back except for the EEG and they are all normal and perfect. They have her on antiobiotics and an antiviral as a precaution for 48 hours just in case, and so far, unless the EEG has a problem the plan is to send her home tomorrow or the next day. They just want to observe in case she has another one, they keep catching just the very tail end, and the doctor said they can look just like seizures but be some sort of baby acid reflux, causing all the regidity, crying and convulsions. Since she has only had three in her entire life (one month) the doctor does not plan on putting her on any drugs right now, unless the EEG shows something conclusive, or they start happening more often, sometimes the drugs can be worse than the seizures, since if they are just ‘normal infantile seizures’ as the doc thinks, they do NOT damage anything, and she is not going to need drugs and will grow out of them. That is of course if they are seizures.
I am staying here with her, they have a pull out chair for moms and let me ‘live’ here with no real restrictions or anthing. Joseph had to return to work and come in the evenings, we just couldn’t afford him to miss more work. The hospital is really nice, nurses are great and the rooms are clean, tight but clean, I have a sweet little 7 month old roomate with cystic fibrosis that is just the happiest baby! Sorry I have not called anyone, I only have limited minutes on the phone left and try to save them for updates to joseph during the day. Room is ok but it is nohing like the las vegas hotels! :-)
Ok, I am off to feed the baby, I have the laptop and will try to keep you updated as I get more information. But again, she is fine, everything has come back perfect, so we just have to wait and see now. :-)
