The Pregnancy Brain - How to deal

969788_9_months.jpgBeing 30 weeks pregnant I find that my brain has shrunk. The old saying that “baby steals brain cells” is proving true for me. I find myself saying things that make no sense at all and forgetfulness is common. After some research and 30 weeks of dealing I thought it was high time for a little post on the subject.

While getting enough sleep can help greatly, it sometimes has no effect. For myself, some days I take a nap and end up feeling worse after, so finding a good balance can be beneficial. Little tricks like carrying a little notebook and calandar with you to jot down notes and important information help me a lot too. Being organized is key as well, I try to have everything I need on a daily basis kept in one place, I got a cute little basket on the side table by the couch where I keep all of my medicine, everything from Tylenol to antacids are right there in one place instead of all over the house.

A lot of the research I did turned up something that was not surprising, that the flakiness you feel while pregnant may just be our perception. One study found that pregnant women did experience a decline in memory, but only in the third trimester. Interestingly, in a different study, pregnant women rated themselves as having performed worse than they would have before pregnancy, even though they tested just as well as a group that wasn’t pregnant.

Instead of going out and looking for life insurance for seniors and planning on forgetting your name, try to take a breath and relax. You might just be setting yourself up to forget by ‘expecting’ to forget. But who knows?! :-) It will all be worth it in the end, and who cares if we make a few silly mistakes while pregnant, we are going through a lot of changes!

Pregnancy brain hit me hard! In fact, that is how I knew I was pregnant with Sammie. I was in a college algebra class, and absolutely could not function. It was crazy! LOL

I actually heard one study, though, years ago, in which the medical community did recognize this as physically happening. I don’t remember if it was about increased hormones or increased blood flow, though.

I had the same thing, exactly))

Although my hubby says these are not problems with brain or memory - you just stop paying attention to some things, you are listening to what is happening inside you, you try to stay calm in order not to make the child worry… so, you just start avoiding things that may get you out of balance - there is nothing bad in it

I’d wish my sister would understand that. She is pregnant for the 4th time now but still complaints about all the changes her body is going through - You’d think she would have accepted it all by now, but she keeps on scaring us all with her craziness Sometimes she makes me scared of one day getting pregnant - but when I see the results it makes me so proud of her after all.
