Freelancing and Designing

Been working some on the side on a few websites and other freelance work, the next project will be to help my hubby design business cards for work, theirs are so lame. I am liking the options at VistaPrint and trying to save them money, they are so cheap! I recently did the website for them, although I hate it, the boss loves it and that’s what counts I guess, but the site will not be going in my portfolio anytime soon! :-)

They need both new business cards and brochures for some conference they are going to next month, I am hoping I will get more free range design input on those than the website, with the website it was the boss knowing what he wanted and where, no leeway at all. And no, I won’t link it here, it really is terrible, and I would hate for the boss man to see a link here and read this post… that would be a bit embarrassing, admitting I hate the website ‘I’ designed! LOL

I have always wanted to get business cards for me, with my blog URL, email and ‘mommy blogger’ on them, something cute, but it would be a waste of time and money, where would they go?!? I never leave the house and I have like 4 friends and they already know the address!

I would reconsider using Vistaprint. I have quite a number of business cards I’ve been given from them, and they aren’t very high quality prints. Grainy, not very rich color, ink smudges at the slightest hint of moisture, not the best paper quality. And their “free” cards have a big Vistaprint logo on the back, which is pretty tacky.

Even paying a couple more dollars to have your cards professionally printed is totally worth it. You’d be surprised at how cheap it actually is to get business cards printed… just don’t go somewhere like Kinko’s because they’re really overpriced with nearly everything. For example, Vistaprint has 500 glossy cards for $41.98. I got 500 business cards from a local printer for $45 and some cents - not only that, but they were full color bleed to the edges of the card and were printed that way on both sides.

I realize the convenience Vistaprint looks to be but once you’ve seen enough of their cards you know it’s worth going to someone else.
