Alert- FixTunes is a dud

fixtunes.gifA few days ago I got a program called FixTunes to try to organize my music collection. It was almost 30 dollars, I thought it would be worth it, all was going well while running the program, out of nearly 2500 songs it took all duplicates out, whittled the music down to 1,300 (we had A LOT of duplicates!) So all was ok, after manually fixing nearly 300 songs it couldn’t look up, I hit the fix all button, after all, that is what you are suppost to do after ALL songs are identified and tagged.

Once it finished ‘fixing’ all the songs I sat down on ITunes and turned on some music, instantly I noticed something was off, a Big and Rich song was labeled as Disturbed, and Carrie Underwood labeled as Alabama… upon more investigation, it seemed EVERY song was completely mis titled. I searched online and realized there was no solution, AND that I should have done more research before I got the problem, I am not the only person that went through this.

I spent 4 hours yesterday on Lyrics sites re-tagging 881 songs, as out of a final tally of 1,206 total songs. That means that only 325 files were correctly labeled. I was NOT a happy camper. Lucily the use of a few lyrics sites made it so much easier. It is all done now and every song has album art and the right tags…

In conclusion, do not use FixTunes, unless you have a back up somewhere. If you try it, good luck!

Wednesday Confession

Wednesday confessionI have decided to add in a weekly feature here, a Wednesday Confession. Feel free to join me, just link back here and I will add your site. I just felt the blog needed something like this, after all, it is ‘Confessions of a Housewife’.

So what is my confession? I have a hard time saying I’m sorry when I overreact. I don’t know why, but when Joseph and I get into an argument and I am overreacting about something small I will site there when it is don’t trying my hardest to get the ‘I’m sorry, I overreacted’ out of my mouth! Therefore I rarely say I am sorry when it counts. I think it is some sort of fear of rejection, I feel like if I say I am sorry I am exposing a secret place and if he comes back with something rude or smart mouthed, I will hurt that part of me. Do I make any sense here? :-(

So that is my confession this week, I am scared to say I am sorry.

Into the Forest

The other day Joseph and I decided to drive out to the woods north of Lake City, only about 3 miles north but it was still woods LOL. We found a little trail with just a little sign indicating what it was, so we parked and ventured into the woods. It was beautiful, we only went about a quarter of a mile into the trail before we turned back. I was still feeling a bit under the weather. When we got back to the truck there was another truck parked, with the headlights on, Joseph wanted to go open this persons truck and turn off the headlights so his batteries didn’t die, I was like no way, we are in the country, this guy could be back any minute and have a gun and kill us both! You never know here, it is a redneck town!

Rebates – Reward or Rip Off?

money.pngRebates have become increasingly popular in the last few years on a lot of items and certainly on electronic items and computers. Rebates of $20, $50 or $100 are not uncommon.

I’ve even seen items advertised as “free after rebate”. Do these rebates come under the heading of “too good to be true”? Some of them do and there are “catches” to watch out for but if you are careful, rebates can help you get some really good deals.

The way a rebate works is that you pay the listed price for an item then mail in a form and the bar code to the manufacturer and they send you a refund thus reducing the price of what you paid for the item except with a time delay of several weeks.

Rule #1. Rebates from reputable companies are usually just fine.
You can be pretty sure you will get the promised rebate from Best Buy, Amazon or Dell but you should probably not count on getting one from a company you’ve never heard of. If you really want the product and are OK with paying the price listed then buy it but don’t count on actually getting the refund.

Rule #2. Check rebate expiration dates.
Many times products will stay on the shelf of a retailer after the date for sending in the rebate offer has expired so check that date carefully.

Rule #3. Be sure you have all the forms required to file for the rebate before you leave the store.
Rebates will almost always require a form to be filled out, a receipt for the purchase and a bar code.

Rule #4. Back up your rebate claim.
Make copies of everything you send in to get your rebate including the bar code. Stuff gets lost in the mail all the time and if the rebate is for $50 it’s worth the trouble to back up your claim.
