The Blog Points System - Excel Sheet

Last week I mentioned the Points system I read about over at ProBlogger; How to Keep Momentum Going on Your Blog with a ‘Points System’. I left a comment saying I would work on a form or spreadsheet to keep track of the points daily. This is what I have come up with so far. It is a daily tracker, for up to 4 blogs, (you can easily add more blogs to the sheet. I have put in quite a few points that were mentioned in the post as well as suggested in the comments. It works like a log book, and auto tallies your totals as you go through the day. For instance, say I just left 3 comments on 3 separate blogs, I would put a 3 in the qty column, and the actions assigned points (5) multiplies by the quantity, giving you a total of say 15 points so far. that number is subtracted by your daily goal, and lets you know that you still have 35 points to make that day. (if you set your goal at 50.)

Blogging Points System is all free of course. If you like it please consider a link to share with others! I won’t mind- I promise! :-) If you have any questions, let me know!

This is a pretty neat way to keep track of how efficient you’re being. Time management is one of my biggest problems -but with a number value assigned to each task, I think that it could keep me focused a little bit better. Nice work!

I have problems with time management as well and I have tried keeping the point system but it always falls apart. I’m going to try it your way and see if it works! Thanks!

Thats a really cool spreadsheet. I am going to start using it. What kind of goals do you set each day for comments and stuff?

This is a great tool - I find that it’s so much easier to manage all my blogs and tasks if I have something to help me keep it all straight. You should turn it into a widget that can be posted on people’s blogs or in their wordpress admin so you get tons of links as compensation for your effort!

Eve, I used the scoring system and the spreadsheet for the first time today! My post about it is here (http://bloggingexperiment.com/archives/daily-blog-score-7-24.php).

Thanks again for the tip.

[…] Ben Cook at Blogging Experiment has been using a blogging points system that problogger Darren Rowse mentioned in his post, How to Keep Momentum Going on Your Blog with a ‘Points System’. How To Score Yourself For Better Blogging — Passionate America / July 26th, 2007, 7:49 pm / #

This is a great idea! I came here from Passionate America. The one criticism I would have is that you have the file saved in and xls format, which really only plays nice with Microsoft Office.

That’s an expensive program, and a lot of people don’t have it. The standard Works spreadsheet will open it, but it messes up the format. Fortunately OpenOffice.org handles it well. I’d still prefer a non-Microsoft Office only format.

I’ll go crawl back into my open source hole now.
